Game 2
Areli 1 hit, 1 stolen base, scored 1 run. Sparked our offense tonight.
Syd had a couple solid AB's with a stolen base, but the biggest part of Syd's night might have gone unnoticed to the average spectator. After grounding into a fielder's choice, I looked at the replay on the Jumbo-trom and saw my stride was early. I started asking, "why am I early, why can't I slow down my feet and get on time with the flight of the ball?"
By this time, I was at SS warming up between innings. I then started thinking of other middle infielders and the typical struggles they go through offensively. Quick feet. Good on defense, not so good at the plate. So I figured, I needed to slow my feet at the plate.
I really felt I was on to something here. So my next AB I got to try it out. While on deck I timed the pitches with a slower more controlled stride. Stepped into the box for my third AB and everything seemed so much more in control, well at least after the first pitch. My first stride was quick, FB away for strike one. Same feel as the AB before. Then the pitcher started throwing balls. This is where I started getting the timing right. 3-1 I got a FB middle away and smoked it over the right fielder's head. He ran back and caught it, but that's the feeling where I can have tons of success. I felt compact and behind the baseball. In control.
You know, hitting is a constant battle. It seems there are little fixes that come and go throughout a season, but slowing the feet makes a lot of sense. Hopefully it'll be a long fix. I know i can slow my feet at the plate and still move quickly when needed on D. I always say, "the best athletes know how to go at different speeds." Consistency at the plate is the new quest. I think the feet have a lot to do with that, but also know as a byproduct my front shoulder relaxed down, and my barrel seemed more ready to move forward. Remember, a swing must be whole to be successful. It's ok to break it down and find where it is out of whack, but you must put it all back as one before using it again. if not, the rest will not work properly. Thank you for your wisdom and this honest journey Lord. Amen.
